One 14-year-old youth was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken remains attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The inquest heard from school staff at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that communication.

Official Finding

Lead investigator informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his questioning he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his intent."
