Diving into an Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered numerous entertaining indie games. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure features a protagonist that is actually a turd striving to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: press a one button to leap. Throughout numerous levels, you'll face boss fights and unlock a market to acquire outfits for your poop character.
Time your actions precisely, since one error requires starting over. Jump off bubbles to propel the poop higher, navigate crumbling platforms, and interact with triggers to reveal hidden paths. Earn coins for buying challenging stages as things intensifies.
In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching level designs and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics with moving basic polygons could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of other games where you are a dung character, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references shows up heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received notable recognition, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is accessible now on Steam, with the full game planned to launch on computers in the fall.
